William Potts Sherman

Mayor of Trenton & Business Leader

William Potts Sherman was a versatile leader in early Trenton, serving as the editor of the "New Jersey State Gazette" and the first elected Mercer County Surrogate. He holds the unique historical distinction of serving the shortest term as Mayor of Trenton (April 6–9, 1855). A prominent lawyer, he was instrumental in Trenton's industrial growth, founding the Trenton Silk Manufacturing Co. and serving as an officer for the Trenton Water Works and the Trenton Savings Fund Society.
